Predator Certifications
Predator is a synthetic turf system manufactured by Sprinturf and installed on fields nationwide.

Samples of this material were tested by independent laboratories for PFAS, heavy metals, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. This page shows what they looked for, what they found, and the certificates behind it.
Sprinturf did not run these tests, and did not decide what the results mean. That work was done by Firefly Sports Testing, an outside company that specializes in validating sports surfacing materials.
That distinction matters. A manufacturer testing its own product and reporting its own results asks you to take its word for it. An independent validator does not.
What Was Tested
- PFAS, a group of synthetic compounds used to make products resist water, grease, and stains. They break down very slowly, which is why they are sometimes called forever chemicals, and they are under active regulatory review.
- Heavy metals such as lead and cadmium. The concern is not whether a metal is present in a material, but whether any of it could come out and be absorbed by the body. The testing measures that directly, using conditions that simulate swallowing.
- Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, or PAHs, which form whenever organic material burns incompletely. They are common in the environment, and some are associated with health concerns, so both the EPA and European regulators track them.
What the Laboratories Found
Testing under EPA Method 1633 detected no PFAS compounds above the method’s reporting limits. Testing under EN 71-3 and ASTM F3496 found the material met the performance criteria defined by those standards.
Laboratory results say “not detected” rather than zero, and that is worth understanding. Every method has a threshold below which it cannot reliably measure. Not detected means the substance was not found above that threshold. It does not mean the laboratory proved the substance is absent at any concentration, because no test can prove that. We would rather explain this than leave you to wonder about it.

What Each Test Looks For

What This Covers, and What It Does Not
Certification applies across the Predator® system rather than to a single face weight or color, because these products share the same fibers and manufacturing process. ASTM D7138 material fingerprinting confirms the material’s thermal signature stays consistent with the certified reference, and triggers re-testing if a supplier or manufacturing process changes.
This certification does not address surface temperature, impact attenuation, or how the field plays. Those are real questions, they are just answered by different testing. Impact attenuation is evaluated separately through IPEMA’s program.
It also does not speak to synthetic turf in general. It documents what independent laboratories found in this material. Other Sprinturf products carry their own certificates. View all certified products.
