100% polyethylene/mono-filament like fibers, tufted into a triple primary
backing of woven and non woven fabrics with a hot applied polyurethane
secondary backing.
2.
A resilient infill system consisting of either crambient ground
recycled SBR rubber granules or a homogenous mixture of specifically sized,
rounded washed silica sand and specially graded recycled SBR granules.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SUBMITTALS
A.
The Bidding entity shall meet the following experience criteria:
1.
The Bidder shall have been in business for at least five years,
actively selling and installing infilled synthetic turf and have installed a
minimum of 25 full size (no less than 80,000 square feet) infilled synthetic turf
fields.
2.
All Bidders shall submit, with the bid, resumes of both Project
Managers and Turf Foreman that will be utilized on the project.
Subcontractors shall not be acceptable for the installation of the synthetic
turf, inlays or infill.
3.
All Bidders shall submit, with the bid, a list of 25 completed
installations over the last five years. The list shall include
installations that are similar in scope and no less than 80,000 square feet
in size. The list shall include names and phone numbers of the contacts.
The contacts cannot be current or former employees of the Bidder. The
Bidder’s list must include at least five projects that are at least four
years old.
4.
The Bidder
shall provide evidence of a bonding capacity of no less than 10 million
dollars, in the form of a bond capability letter from the corporate surety.
B.
The Bidder shall submit the following with the bid/proposal:
1.
Detailed specifications and other descriptive literature, as may be
required, to insure the Owner is clear on the scope of the turf installation
and the specific product proposed.
2.
Finished product sample, minimum 10” x 6”.
3.
Sample copy of the Manufacturer’s standard Warranty.
C. The
Bidder must supply a Manufacturer’s Warranty that guarantees the usability
and playability of the synthetic surface for eight years including:
1.
The Manufacturer’s Warranty shall include coverage for damage caused
from UV degradation or defects in workmanship and materials in the
manufacturing or installation of the synthetic turf.
2.
All turf warranties shall be limited to repair or replacement of the
affected areas, at the Manufacturer’s option, and shall include all
necessary materials, labor, transportation costs, etc. to complete the
required repairs.
PART 2: MATERIALS
2.05
SYNTHETIC TURF SYSTEM MATERIALS
A.
The 100% polyethylene hybrid slit film fiber shall
be “Ultrablade™,” a yarn, much stronger than standard slit film
polyethylene fibers.
B.
The turf will
be an 8,000 denier (8800 DTex) material with 100 micron Ultrablade™ fiber manufactured exclusively for Sprinturf. The elongation to break (ASTM
2256) of this fiber shall be a minimum of 65%. The individual fiber design
shall be a maximum of 10mm, after manufacturing and prior to field
fibrillation. The fibrillation matrix, after completion of field
fibrillation, must consist of individual fibrils not less than 1.7mm in
width and uniform in size.
C.
The fiber shall be a minimum of 2 1/4” long, plus or minus 1/8”, and
consists of 44 ounces of the Ultrablade™ fiber per square yard. Standard
slit film fibers are NOT acceptable.
D.
The primary backing shall be Stabilon™, a triple layered material,
consisting of woven and non- woven fabrics, weighing a minimum of 10 ounces
per square yard. This backing shall be heat and UV resistant, providing
dimensional stability in all directions, to prevent stretching, shrinking,
creeping and line distortion.
E.
The secondary backing shall consist of a heat activated polyurethane
coating weighing approx. 26 to 28 ounces per square yard. The backing shall
be heat punched to create a grid of drainage perforations on 3” x 4”
centers. Non-perforated backing shall NOT be acceptable.
F.
The infill shall consist of either crambient ground recycled SBR
rubber granules (all rubber) or a homogenous mixture of specifically sized,
rounded washed silica sand and specially graded recycled SBR granules. The
sand and rubber mixture will be 50% by weight. Both infill systems are
specifically sized and graded to maximize density and minimize infill
displacement (poofing).
G.
A Maintenance Groomer, to be pulled with the Owners equipment, is
provided with each field greater than 50,000 square feet. The Sprint Groomer
shall have removable brushes and spring loaded metal tines.
PART 3:
TURF EXECUTIONS
3.01
SYNTHETIC TURF INSTALLATION
A.
The finished stone base must be accepted by the turf contractor for
planarity. It shall not vary more than 3/16” in any 10’ direction.
B.
The turf rolls are to be installed directly over the Resilient
Cushion Layer (Optional) of crambient ground rubber or directly on the laser
graded stone base. Extreme care should be taken to avoid disturbing the
aggregate base. A 2-5 ton static roller shall be used to compact the base
ahead of the placement of each roll of turf.
C.
Full width rolls shall be laid out across the field. Using “state of
the art” gluing techniques, each roll shall be attached to the next with 12”
wide seaming tape. When all the rolls of the playing surface have been
installed, the sideline rolls shall be installed at right angles to the
playing surface rolls. There shall be no “head seams” permitted in the
playing area.
D.
The markings on the field may be painted, field inlaid or in some
cases factory tufted. The following markings shall be painted, field inlaid
or factory tufted: (List inlays)
E.
The average G-max of the finished system shall as follows:
All rubber: Under
135 G’s for the life of the warranty.
Sand & Rubber:
Under 165 G’s for the life of the warranty.
In order to maintain the
G-max, the Owner shall be required to maintain the synthetic grass by
following the recommended maintenance and grooming procedures contained in
the Sprinturf Maintenance Manual, provided to the Owner. The infill mixture
shall be evenly spread with large drop spreaders, minimum 5’ wide, in
multiple layers. Between each layer, the fiber shall be brushed or dragged
to insure that fibers are not trapped by the infill.
F.
On completion of the surface the fiber shall be approx. 1/2” above
the finished infill. The finished surface will have the planarity and
subtle undulations, similar to a typical natural grass athletic field.
