6 Wayne, PA - In a joint announcement
today, Associate Athletic Director of Intramurals
and Recreation Marilyn Ross and Sprinturf President
Elliot Levine announced the selection of Sprinturf
with Ultrablade™ as the new synthetic turf
system for the University of Pittsburgh Trees
Hall Intramural Field. Sprinturf with Ultrablade™
was selected for its durability and safety, and
because it feels and plays like natural grass.
Over 400 intramural games will be played on the
field each year by 150 intramural football and
soccer teams. The new field will be installed
in August.
“We
are really excited about it, and can’t wait
to have it installed!” said Marilyn Ross
today, “The field will be soft, playable,
and cut down on injuries with knees and ankles
that we had in the past.”
The
University of Pittsburgh prides itself in athletic
achievement. Athletes have won Big East national
championships in football, conference titles in
many sports, national rankings in basketball,
wrestling and volleyball, and individual national
championships in gymnastics, swimming and track
and field. Former Pitt track and field star Roger
Kingdom is a two-time Olympic gold medalist.
“I
really like the antiseptic part about it. There’s
no sand, which means no germs and a safer and
softer field to play,” Ross commented.
“We
are very excited to be part of the intramural
sports experience at Pitt. Sprinturf’s mission
is to provide the optimum playing performance
in the safest possible environment. Our synthetic
turf systems combine patented technology with
over 40 years of sports construction experience
to deliver fields that maintain playability game
after game,” Sprinturf’s President
and COO Elliot Levine commented.
Sprinturf
is the leading American-owned installer and manufacturer
of synthetic turf systems. The choice of Sprinturf
by the University of Pittsburgh is the latest
on a list of over 200 universities and high schools
that are playing on Sprinturf fields.
