Upland National Little League, which already has the distinction of being the only Little League in the country not to charge a registration fee, will unveil another first Saturday: the first with artificial turf.

The state-of-the-art Sprinturf field at Olivedale Park will be dedicated as Colonies Crossroads Stadium, reflecting a large donation from Colonies Crossroads Inc. that helped fund the improvements.

Another $140,000 grant was secured through the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors to renovate Bob Hargis Field at Olivedale Park, located at 550 E. Eighth Street, east of Euclid and west of Campus.

Not only will the new turf save the city and the league by conserving water and reducing maintenance costs, but will rob all players of a traditional baseball excuse: the bad bounce.
