Grass-stained
football uniforms in the Metro Conference are
going the way of leather helmets. Workers began
installing artificial turf at Central's Seemann
Stadium this week. The Eagles' first home game
on their downtown campus will be Sept. 3 against
Omaha North.
Central
Principal Jerry Bexten said installers should
be done with the field at the 5,300-seat stadium
by the end of next week. The project is on schedule,
he said, with work on the four-lane track to begin
in May.
Bexten
said Central and Heritage Services, the nonprofit
group overseeing the project, are planning an
Aug. 20 dedication of Seemann Stadium.
Sometime
before that, he said, the school district will
accept the stadium and transfer to Joslyn Art
Museum the land occupied by the old practice field
and track
