| Wayne,
PA - Director of Athletics Donny White and Sprinturf
President Elliot Levine announced the selection
of Sprinturf with Ultrablade™ as the new
synthetic turf system for Virginia Military Institute’s
Delaney Field. Sprinturf with Ultrablade™
was selected for its durability and safety, and
because it feels and plays like natural grass.
“From
the beginning of the process, I heard great things
about Sprinturf. Together we were able to design
a field that we wanted and I was confident that
Sprinturf would meet all of our expectations.
VMI is really excited about this field,”
Donny White stated.
Founded
in 1839, VMI is the nation’s first state
supported military college. VMI also prides itself
in its athletic tradition as a Division I (Division
I-AA in football) member and a member of the Big
South Conference. Approximately one-third of the
Corps of Cadets plays intercollegiate athletics,
providing a program that is truly representative
of the student body. VMI fields 16 teams on the
NCAA Division I level.
Sprinturf
is the leading American-owned installer and manufacturer
of synthetic turf systems. The choice of Sprinturf
by the Virginia Military Institute for its practice
football field is the latest on a list of over
350 universities and high schools that are playing
on Sprinturf fields. Sprinturf revolutionized
the industry by patenting and installing the first
all rubber infill system.
All-rubber
infill systems provide a safer alternative than
sand and rubber fields due to sand’s tendency
to settle to the bottom, compact over time, and
clog drainage holes. It also becomes a breeding
ground of bacteria due to sand’s ability
to absorb players’ blood, vomit, and sweat.
Granulated rubber, on the other hand, is non-compactable
and therefore allows these contaminants to easily
pass through the drainage system.
“We
are very excited to be part of the intercollegiate
sports experience at VMI. Sprinturf’s mission
is to provide an optimum playing performance in
the safest possible environment. Our synthetic
turf systems combine patented technology with
over 40 years of sports construction experience
to deliver fields that maintain playability game
after game,” Sprinturf’s President
and COO Elliot Levine commented.
