| UNION,
N.J. – When the Kean University
Cougars hit the field at Alumni Stadium this fall,
there will be a new playing surface under their
feet. The old, traditional Astroturf field system
that was installed for the stadium's construction
six years ago has been changed to the next generation
of artificial surface, Sprinturf. This upgrade
is among a long list of recent improvements to
the athletic facilities, which will provide Kean
with some of the finest amenities in all of Division
III.
The
new Sprinturf will not only be a safety improvement
over the older surface, but the fell of the synthetic
field now mimics real grass. Prior to the change,
the Kean football, field hockey and men’s
and women’s lacrosse programs were the only
varsity teams to use the stadium. However, the
new surface is more conducive to soccer, thus
allowing both the men’s and women’s
soccer teams to play a majority of the games in
Alumni Stadium.
Sprinturf
is one of the industry leaders in synthetic surfaces
with over 35 years of experience in the sport
facilities construction business. They have installed
fields all over the country including practice
fields for the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee
Titans of the NFL. In the college ranks, Sprinturf
has recently installed new fields at the Ohio
State University, Auburn University, the University
of Pennsylvania, Fairfield University, SUNY-Cortland
and Western Connecticut State University.
